Although it plans to keep selling mobile devices in China, Samsung no longer intends to make them in the same country. This move is thought to have been taken in order to cut costs, and also due to overwhelming competition from other OEMs such as Huawei. The South Korean company will transfer production to other nations such as Vietnam in the future.

Samsung has suspended its one remaining mobile device concern in China. This facility had been located in Huizhou, and its closure follows a winding-down of production in the same plant earlier this year. The OEM has stated that it has taken this measure in order to "boost efficiency". However, it will continue to market actual devices in this country.

Then again, Samsung is not doing very well in this endeavor. Recent analysis reportedly shows that its share of the Chinese phone market was at about 1% in the first quarter of 2019, compared to 15% in 2013. This trend may be due to steadily-growing competition from home-grown OEMs such as Xiaomi and Huawei over the last 6 years.

The Korean electronics giant is not the only non-Chinese manufacturer to feel this effect: Sony has also announced that it is to close its own Beijing plant and is moving the relevant production to Thailand instead. Apple, on the other hand, is hanging on to its own facilities in this country at present. As for Samsung, it reportedly plans to focus its industry on countries such as Vietnam or India, where it may be cheaper to manufacture in the future.
