A nation honors George Floyd A public memorial honoring George Floyd is set for Monday in Houston, followed by a private funeral Tuesday. Both follow services last week in Minnesota and his home state of North Carolina, part of a push to honor the man whose death in police custody has sparked global protests. Derek Chauvin appears in court Chauvin, the officer who was filmed kneeling on Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes, is due in court Monday for a hearing. Chauvin has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to Floyd's death. The primaries are ... still happening Surprise! Though most of the country's voters had the chance already to cast ballots, Georgia and West Virginia will hold presidential primaries Tuesday, after officials postponed them due to the coronavirus. Puerto Rico votes today. A look back at the Hong Kong protests Tuesday marks one year since the largest anti-government and pro-democracy protest in Hong Kong -- which began as a movement against a controversial extradition bill in March and transformed into a pro-democracy and anti-government revolution that lasted months. Similar protests are still happening. The state of the US economy Fed Chairman Jerome Powell is expected to give a news conference Wednesday. Powell may announce new interest rates -- which dropped to zero back in March -- as well as give an update on the economy. This comes about six months before the November election and historically has a significant outcome on the election. The anniversary of Loving v. Virginia Before Loving v. Virginia, interracial marriages -- specifically between white and black folks -- were illegal. But 53 years ago on Friday, all that changed. The US Supreme Court ruled that the government can't interfere with a marriage based on the spouses' races. A moment of silence Four years ago Friday, a shooter walked into Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, and killed 49 people. Since then, Florida lawmakers have proposed designating the club a national memorial to remember the deadliest attack on the LGBTQ community in the US.
Trump addresses West Point grads The US military academy, as directed by the White House, recalled members of the class of 2020 to the New York campus to attend the ceremony and the President's speech in person. About 15 cadets who returned to campus have tested positive for Covid-19 and were isolated. At last, the Tony Awards -- kind of The Tony Awards, Broadway's biggest awards show, was postponed from tonight. No worries, though! Broadway on Demand will host a one-hour fundraising event benefiting the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League, hosted by Tony Award nominee Lonny Price. The show starts at 6 p.m. ET, so warm up those vocal cords. About those anti-racist reading lists you've seen ... New month, new streams A magical edible forest. DC's strangest group of superheroes. A mobster's fairy tale. That's some of what's new this month on Netflix and other services. Dinner and a movie, with Phish The band Phish will livestream its July 26, 2013, show from The Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. ET, and collect donations while they're at it. The band shared a recipe for red beans and rice. That makes for a pretty good stay-at-home, curl-up-in-sweatpants date night. Celebrate John Prine "Picture Show: A Tribute Celebrating John Prine" will air online Thursday, at 7:30 p.m. ET. Produced by the singer-songwriter's family and Oh Boy Records, the event will feature musicians, actors and friends remembering Prine, who died in April. Vroom vroom, y'all The Atlanta Motor Speedway will host the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 today, originally scheduled for March. The race is NASCAR's first event in June, after the organization restarted activities in May. It's followed by Wednesday's Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500 in Virginia. Batter up Baseball hasn't quite made its return, but the MLB will be hosting its 2020 MLB Draft virtually on Wednesday and Thursday, according to ESPN. The switch comes amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis and, though some details are still unknown, it may be similar to what the NFL did earlier this year.
