If your idea of holiday cheer is hitting the mall to spend some of your hard-earned cash on New Year's Day, start celebrating.
Many of the nation's top shopping destinations, from Apple to Bloomingdale's to Home Depot, will be open for business Wednesday.
But be sure to check before you leave home because not every store will be and many will have shortened hours. Game Stop, Sam's Club and Costco are among those taking the holiday off. Several pharmacies also will be closed.
Some small businesses will be closed, too. According to Womply, a small business software provider, New Year’s Day is one of the slowest days of the year for local retailers with 1 in 5 not open.
“If you plan to bargain hunt on New Year’s Day, be sure to check store hours ahead of time,” said Brad Plothow, Womply's vice president of corporate marketing and communications.
