Getty ImagesFollowing a month of extreme volatility spurred by the spread of the coronavirus, investors got their first long weekend this week. Several large exchanges, including the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq, were closed on April 10 in observance of Good Friday.
While the long weekend will end on Sunday for many markets, there are some global exchanges that will remain closed in observance of Easter Monday.
Is the Stock Market Closed on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday? What About Futures?
Many of the U.S. markets that were closed on Good Friday will be open on Easter Monday. Both the NYSE and Nasdaq will be open on Easter Monday 2020, and investors will be watching to see if the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average can continue its historic run. CME Globex futures and options exchanges will be open on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
While The Securities Industry and Markets Association recommends that markets for government bonds and other fixed-income securities close for Good Friday, they do not make the same recommendation for Easter Monday.
Are International Stock Markets Closed on Easter Monday?
The Singapore Stock Exchange, Toronto Stock Exchange, Shanghai Stock Exchange, and Japan Exchange Group will all be open on Easter Monday. However, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the London Stock Exchange, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange will be closed in observance of Easter Monday. In the U.K., Good Friday and Easter Monday are bank holidays, as Barron’s previously reported.
