Understandably, there are many baseball fans who enjoy hyper-analyzing their teams after games — but that shouldn't be the case on Opening Day. That won't stop fans from chiming in and overreacting, though.
Leave it to Cleveland baseball fans to complain after they watched their team lose the season opener 3-2 to the Tigers in Detroit under nasty conditions. There was even snow early in the game.
One of them called into "Drennan Live," hosted by Cleveland sportscaster Bruce Drennan, wanting to complain about the loss and nitpick strategy and effort.
Drennan absolutely unloaded on the caller in a classic bit of sports talk radio that's worth several listens.
The exchange:
Drennan: Right, I, uh, guess you missed a lot of the games that (Franmil) Reyes hit in the clutch last year, huh?
Caller: "No, no, no, no, no, no, no."
Drennan: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You're an idiot. You're an idiot and you don't know baseball. OOOOHHH, you are an idiot. Listen, you're gonna tell me you are judging — You don't know anything. You don't know squat, you stupid idiot. You're gonna tell me, you're gonna make a judgment on the season after one game, in 30-degree weather? That proves what an ignoramus you are. Get off our show. Fair-weather idiot.

Mean-spirited? Sure. Entertaining? Yes. A reminder to not get worked up over one stinkin' game of 162? Absolutely.
Cleveland fans might not have much to look forward to this season, hence the heightened tension. The team will have to navigate the AL Central without Francisco Lindor, Carlos Santana and Carlos Carrasco. While the club can lean on its pitching a bit, the offense will be, in a word, troubling.
Drennan was a little harsh, but, man, "ignoramus"? That's just good content.
