Kirby Smart was a guest on ESPN’s College Football Playoff Selection Show, and explained how the talk about resetting and re-centering Georgia following the SEC Championship Game loss is often talked about, but how do you accomplish it?
“You accomplish it with great leadership, which this team sitting here listening to Jim speak about his team, it’s so ironic is I feel like our leadership is as good as it’s ever been,” Smart said. “To see those men in that locker room last night after the game gave me great confidence of what’ll go on over the next 3 or 4 weeks. There was a lot of hurt, there was a lot of pain. A lot of guys reaching out last night fired up and ready to go to work and that’s what we need to do.”
Smart said Georgia will quickly move to preparation, but after he watched Michigan in the Big Ten Championship game, he was impressed with Michigan’s leadership and attitude.
“Hearing their guys talk after the game just tells you a lot about who they are and what they’re about,” Smart said.
Smart was asked what he learned from the Alabama loss, and he said the biggest thing is 2 turnovers, a pick-6, and not winning the third down category, or red zone battle.
“You have to dig into those details and figure out why that happened, that’s something we’ve got to work on,” Smart said.
