MORRISTOWN, NJ — With coronavirus cases increasing in Morristown and Thanksgiving coming up, Mayor Tim Dougherty urged people to be careful. He said he especially wants people to keep health care workers in mind.
Officials reported 13 new coronavirus cases Tuesday in Morristown, bringing the town to 925 cases since the pandemic began.
"We continue to get more than the one or two we got for all those months. Now we're 25 one day, 12 another day, 15, 51 for a weekend," Dougherty said Tuesday in a video update. "So again, I caution everyone to wear a mask, social distance when you can and wash your hands often."
Dougherty said he remembers the spring, when health care workers from other states came to help New Jersey. One of those states, Massachusetts, now needs a makeshift hospital, he says.
The mayor doesn't want health care workers in New Jersey to go something like that during the second wave. Dougherty echoed the advice of New Jersey health officials: if you do see other people, keep gatherings small.
"The strain that it's going to put on their health care workers," he said, "what they went through for those months when it was exploding here in New Jersey, just to have then go through it again is mind-numbing. We can't be selfish now."
Gov. Phil Murphy limited indoor gatherings earlier this month from 25 to 10 people. Read more: Gov. Murphy: NJ To Lower Gathering Limits Amid Coronavirus Spikes
