The new polls are out, and Kansas State was rewarded for their big win over Nevada with a #25 ranking in this week’s AP Poll. The Cats, who were at #33 in last week’s poll, jumped over three teams which also won this week: LSU, USC, and Liberty. They also leapfrogged over TCU, and benefited from losses by Virginia Tech, Arizona State, Miami (FL), Central Florida, and Indiana. K-State gained 90 points in the poll over last week.
Those of you counting on your fingers will note that if K-State passed all those teams, they should be at #24. However, Fresno State, who beat UCLA for a fourth straight time last night, jumped even higher than the Cats as they landed at #22. UCLA themselves almost fell to #25, but occupy the spot immediately ahead of K-State. UCLA’s drop was, with the exception of previously-#24 Miami’s complete lack of votes this week, the largest fall of the week.
Michigan State, who’d been sitting at #29, also entered the poll at #20. Of ranked teams, BYU had the biggest jump as they moved from #23 to #15. Michigan went from #25 to #19, while #6 Penn State, #13 Ole Miss, and #16 Arkansas all moved up four spots. The only real shakeup atop the poll was Oregon and Oklahoma swapping positions after Oklahoma’s lackluster win over Nebraska. Oregon picked up 140 points on the Sooners.
As for the coaches poll, K-State was at #36 with 28 points last week. They’re at #33 with 40 points this week.
Coaches are stupid. Or at least the interns they have fill out their ballots are.
