Georgia reached new heights last year after JT Daniels took over as the team’s starting quarterback. The Dawgs went 4-0 and earned a victory over the Cincinnati Bearcats in the Peach Bowl.

The California native completed 67.3 percent of his passes during those four starts for 1,231 yards, 10 touchdowns, and two interceptions. He averaged 10.3 yards per completion and finished the season as UGA's leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns despite playing in just the four games.

In Daniels’ first full offseason in Athens, the signal-caller has become more vocal, according to head coach Kirby Smart. The sixth-year Bulldogs head coach spoke with the media about that on Saturday.

"Yeah we certainly felt that he had that in him,” Smart said. “To play at the high school program he played at, to go to USC and really start as a high school senior, you can't not be a leader and do that. Smart also dove into the performance of Daniels on Saturday.

"I thought he did a good job,” he said. “I don't have the stats, I don't know exactly where he was in terms of total numbers. I don't really remember any poor decisions. We had some long drives that were eight, nine, 10, 11 play drives which is sometimes unusual. The big thing is going to be scoring touchdowns in the red area."

The Bulldogs saw their streak of three consecutive SEC East Division championships snapped a year ago and figure to be a division favorite once again next season.

SEC Network analyst Roman Harper joined The Paul Finebaum Show last month and discussed Georgia’s outlook for 2021, responding to whether Georgia’s expectations for a national championship are for real.

“I think it is legitimate but it’s going to be for different reasons more than we’re used to seeing which is Georgia defensively kind of dominating teams and going out there,” Harper said. “Now, Alabama has shown the blueprint that you can go out there and win with a dominating offense and still have a defense which is maybe not as what we’re used to seeing as dominating, but being good enough situationally and having good big enough stops and creating turnovers defensively. That would be the question mark for Georgia...

“So for me, all the questions come on the defensive side for Georgia, not on the offensive side of the football.”
