Bus drivers are needed throughout the region and SMART will be hosting a Drive-Thru Career Fair from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 2 at its Wayne Terminal in Inkster, according to a news release from SMART.
The event will showcase employees and the various jobs that keep the buses rolling in southeast Michigan. SMART team members will be available on-site to answer questions and provide candidates with insight into what it’s like to work for the agency.
Those interested will have every opportunity to learn more about the organization, its employee culture and how to build a career at SMART.
Many of their longtime employees have ventured off into their well-deserved retirement, and replacing them has been difficult. Finding drivers and mechanics to fill these vacant roles has been a challenge in the current environment. Throughout the pandemic, SMART has taken many steps to ensure the safety of its employees so that reliable bus service is available for those who need it.
With the region opening back up, SMART service plays a critical role to get people to jobs, medical appointments and back to enjoying the entertainment destinations throughout the area again.
There is a great need to fill the positions of drivers and mechanics. SMART offers paid training and a great benefits package.

The drive-thru event will be held at the SMART Wayne Terminal. The bus terminal is at 30000 Industrial Drive in Inkster.
Interested applicants are encouraged to bring a resume and register in advance to help speed the process along.
The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m.
A reminder to attendees, federal law requires that a face mask be worn while at public transit facilities. So bring a mask along with your resume.
SMART will have its tools of the trade (buses) on hand and there will be opportunities for interested applicants to get a birds-eye view of the maintenance facility, and engage in one-on-one conversations with active employees giving a job seeker the inside SMART perspective. Many members of management have started in the driver’s seat.
