Georgia showed why it’s one of the top teams in the country this season, as the Bulldogs came into Jordan-Hare Stadium and handed rival Auburn a 34-10 loss in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.

Stetson Bennett threw for 231 yards and a pair of touchdowns -- with five of those completions going for 135 yards and a touchdown to Ladd McConkey -- Zamir White ran for two touchdowns, and the Bulldogs’ defense stymied the Tigers as Kirby Smart’s team improved to 6-0 on the year, 4-0 in SEC play and picked up its fifth straight win in the rivalry. After the game, Smart met with the media via Zoom to discuss his team’s performance. Here’s a look at his opening statement, with full video of his remarks embedded at the bottom of this post.

KIRBY SMART, Georgia coach

Opening statement...

Well, what a tough environment to play in. I give a lot of credit to Auburn and their fans. They created an electric environment and for a lot of our players, probably 50 percent, I would even say more than 50 percent of the guys that are playing, they have never played in a road environment. Two of our DNA traits are composure and toughness and I thought, ‘never has anything been more evident in today, composure and toughness.’ Being in that locker room, they never doubted, never questioned each other. A really physical game. That was a really physical game, and now we’ve got two of those really physical games back-to-back. I told you we were beat up coming into it and we’re probably going to be beat up coming out of it, but I’m proud of the way the guys competed and golly, just a lot of toughness showed through that game.”
