Someone once said, “There’s no shortage of stupid.”

Lately it seems not only is there not a shortage, there’s a full-fledged geyser spewing out stupidity non-stop, and it makes me wonder, what are/were these people thinking?

In case you’ve missed these latest examples, I have three such stories that may cause you to shake or scratch your head in disbelief.

Allyn Walker is an assistant professor at Old Dominion University who wants to destigmatize pedophilia. Recently the sociology and criminal justice educator shared these sentiments on that topic:

“A lot of people when they hear the term pedophile they automatically assume it means sex offender and that isn’t true. And it leads to a lot of misconceptions about attractions toward minors.”

Are you shaking or scratching yet?

Walker suggest we drop the word pedophile in favour of “minor attracted persons” — I’m not making this up.

And in case you aren’t familiar with Old Dominion University, it was established in 1930 and is one of the largest universities in the state of Virginia. Virginia? Well, perhaps we should drop that name and replace it with Chaste or Pure or Extra Virginia?

Here’s a question for you: If you were a television host and your boss assigned you to interview one of the hottest singers in the world today, namely Adele, and they paid $725,000 for the exclusive interview rights for Australia, wouldn’t you be pumped and loaded with great research on your guest?

We apologize, but this video has failed to load.

And if Adele were to asks you what you thought of her album what would you say? Well, apparently if your this interviewer from Australia you’d say, “Oh sorry, I haven’t listened to it.”

I’m not making this up either. But wait there’s more.

He then Tweeted a line from one of her songs, “Go easy on me.” Well, it seems his words fell on deaf ears over at Sony Music, the keepers of Adele tunes, because they have instructed his television station to not run the interview.

As the battle to convince people to get vaccinated continues I’d like to make a suggestion. Tell television newsrooms to Stop showing footage of people being inoculated. This produces the exact opposite result of what you’re seeking. Watching non-stop video of people being harpooned does not entice one to run down to their pharmacy with their sleeve rolled up screaming, “Stab me next!”

We apologize, but this video has failed to load.

Everyone is aware of what takes place during a vaccination. We don’t need visuals. When I had my knee replaced years ago my doctor asked if I wanted to see a video of what would happen during the procedure. I emphatically responded, ‘No.’ Now I realize some people don’t have a problem with these things, but for the most part I don’t believe this is what I’d call appointment television.

If you want to inspire them to get vaxed, show them the kinds of good things that can come from a shot. They need to think like a beer company ad agency; show them pictures of people frolicking on the beach, dining out on savoury barbeque dishes, and laughing with their friends and family. Just please stop with the inoculation pictures.

Good thing they’re not promoting the prevention of colon cancer?
