It has been a tough weekend for Lando Norris. Having had the pace in qualifying, he would have imagined that it was enough to get a good points finish in Portimao.
But, following a collision with Racing Point’s Lance Stroll in the main race, he suffered damage on his car that saw him slip down to 19th at one point in time. Safe to say, his reaction over the team radio did not consist of the kindest of words.
Post the race, he was also asked about his thoughts on fellow British driver Lewis Hamilton’s landmark victory, which saw him create history. Norris had responded that it meant “nothing to him”.

Lando Norris offered a sincere apology on Twitter
Possibly following that realization, the McLaren driver took to social media platform Twitter, to express his thoughts. And what followed, was an intention to apologize to people he has not ‘shown respect’ for.
Norris’ tweet read, “I owe an apology. I’ve been stupid and careless with some things I’ve said lately in media and interviews, and haven’t shown the respect I should have to certain people.”

“I’m not that kind of person, so know I should apologise to them but also everyone reading/listening. Sorry.”
It most certainly comes across as a very bold move to state these words on social media. Nevertheless, Norris deserves appreciation for wanting to set things right, in a sincere and rightful manner.
Norris had earlier also spoken about Lance Stroll
It is probably not just his comments about Lewis Hamilton that he is apologetic for. Following Sunday’s Portuguese Grand Prix, he also made curt remarks about Lance Stroll, after the two had collided in what was a racing accident.
Norris had stated, “He obviously didn’t learn from Friday but he doesn’t seem to learn from anything he does. It happens a lot with him, so I just need to stay away.”
“It wasn’t a nice battle. I don’t know what I’m meant to say… he crashes a lot.” said Norris.
Lance Stroll had gotten a five seconds time penalty in the race by the FIA for ‘causing a collision’. But obviously, Norris at the time was in a great position to finish the race and take home some points for his team. And hence, his reaction.
Regardless, he will want to put behind all these incidents, and shift his focus to racing and McLaren. And delivering an apology, is definitely one way to go about it.
