Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart secured another prime commitment from 2022 five-star quarterback Gunner Stockton on Thursday afternoon. Stockton is one of the top quarterbacks in Georgia as he stars at Rabun County High School.
Stockton was originally committed to South Carolina before a host of coaching changes. The Gamecocks hired Shane Beamer as head coach to replace Will Muschamp. As a result, Stockton decided to open his recruitment again.
Muschamp has reportedly joined the Bulldogs as well. With Stockton now intending to join the football program, the Bulldogs will have three five-star quarterbacks tied to Smart’s coaching staff. Stockton now joins current star JT Daniels and 2021 five-star quarterback Brock Vandagriff as the next signal-callers in the system.
Smart shared his excitement for Stockton. He took to social media and tweeted “Go Dawgs” to seemingly confirm the news. Stockton is another big addition for the Bulldogs. He spoke to Dawgs247 to discuss his decision to stay close to home with the Bulldogs.

“The day after Coach Muschamp was fired I called Coach Smart and told him I was worried about what was going on at South Carolina,” Stockton said. “We talked about everything and he assured me that I was the quarterback that he wanted for the Class of 2022. My relationship with Coach Monken and Coach Faulkner has grown. I’m excited to compete for my home state team. I just feel really good about the team, the staff, the school, everything. I already have relationships with lots of the current players, and the recruiting Class of 2022 is going to be made up of guys I already have great relationships with. Plus, I couldn’t say no to Coach Smart twice. At Georgia, you always have a chance to win the SEC and be a National Champion. That’s my dream.”
Stockton noted that his decision came down to the Bulldogs and the Auburn Tigers among others. It is where Mike Bobo landed as offensive coordinator after having a big hand in recruiting Stockton to South Carolina.

This season, Stockton threw for 3,128 yards and 45 touchdowns. He also added 1,581 rushing yards and an additional 26 touchdowns on the ground. As the No. 27 overall recruit according to 247Sports Composite, the Bulldogs have added another premier talent to learn under Smart and his staff.
