Soundbars have inflated so much in price over the last years thanks to the inclusion of Dolby Atmos. Support for the format absolutely comes at a price and this is absolutely the same with Bose’s latest soundbar, the Bose Smart Soundbar 900.
This new soundbar supports up to 5.1.2 channels of surround depending on how you install it out. It offers support for the optional Bose Surround 700 Speakers and the Bose Bass Module 700 Wireless Sub, giving you bass and two channels of rear surround. The soundbar, by itself, offers stereo, center, and height channels with built-in subs for a little added bass. Everything together should offer quite an immersive experience.
It also offers built-in support for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, allowing you to be able to control things using your voice. It also allows for wireless streaming via built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and Chromecast.
The MSRP for the soundbar is $899 though, making it quite pricey–and this doesn’t even include the cost of the optional rear speakers or sub (which would take you over $2,000). Given the price, you could easily build out a full system using Klipsch speakers if you have an AVR (receiver) available that supports Atmos. This means this system is going to be for specific niches, including consumers who don’t want to run large speakers everywhere, or who live in apartments and can’t install physical speakers in the roof.
There is nothing surprising about the price though. All of your Atmos-supported soundbars are up there in cost. Then you have to consider the fact that Bose is pricey, to begin with. So it will be a combination of paying for the technology and for the name.
Judging by the specs, it should sound pretty good. We can’t quite say for sure since we haven’t heard it for ourselves, but specs can (at least) paint a pretty clear image. You can find some of these specs below.
The new Bose Smart Soundbar 900 is available now from Bose and select retailers. We made sure to include a few buttons here as well to take you straight to it. The soundbar is available in both Black, as well as Arctic White.
