Preventric AI, a local digital health company, is in the midst of raising funding for their new device, the BPro. Here’s what we know so far.
What is the BPro?
Preventric’s BPro is a watch-like wearable device that uses an ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) to provide healthcare providers with 24/7 consistent blood pressure monitoring. The device itself is FDA-approved and fits easily on anyone’s wrist.
So why is it important? Until now, the traditional way to monitor blood pressure was the inflatable cuff that went around a patient’s arm. While there are mobile versions of the device, they are bulky and slow.
Preventric’s BPro delivers more accurate results, faster than the traditional cuff. Plus, it’s like a watch—easy to use and small enough to fit comfortably on the wrist.
So how does it work?
As mentioned earlier, the BPro runs on an ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) system. But what is ABPM? Well, normally people get their blood pressure checked at a doctor’s office or clinic. The clinician uses an instrument called a sphygmomanometer to take a couple of blood pressure readings.
ABPM allows multiple blood pressure readings to be recorded over a 24-hour period, whether the user is awake or asleep. With multiple readings throughout the day, clinicians can determine the average blood pressure, and detect abnormal blood pressure fluctuations that might go unnoticed otherwise.
BPro launches Sept. 29
Currently, Preventric is in the midst of raising funding to launch the BPro. As of today, the team is about halfway to their goal of $4M, with the majority of funding coming from friends and family.
