The Logan County task force committed to restarting and kickstarting local economic activity is planning a public campaign to promote safe social distancing practices in and around area businesses in conjunction with the “phased reopening” of retail shops and restaurants.

A “Live Smart, Stay Safe” marketing initiative is expected to launch yet this week, or early next week, according to notes from the committee’s most recent meeting, conducted Monday morning.

Signs featuring slogans such as, “Live Smart Stay Safe”; “Cover your face & give me space!”; “Our new task: Wear a mask!”; and “Masks are great until we can vaccinate!” are expected to be rolled out in downtown Bellefontaine, around the village of West Liberty as well as around Indian Lake.

The meeting also featured discussion about how to add more tables to downtown Bellefontaine public areas so that, “people can still get their food and enjoy it near the restaurants,” according to notes from the meeting.

Four picnic tables are expected to be added soon on Main Street, and other possible locations are being discussed.

Business resource packets are currently available at the Logan County Chamber of Commerce including basic information to help businesses reopen, including a customizable maximum occupancy sign.

The chamber also expects to have some 900 disposable face masks available for businesses that have not been able to source them elsewhere. A total of 3,000 masks have been ordered, but most are already spoken for.

Similarly, hand sanitizer is also available at the chamber office.

Representatives from the Indian Lake Chamber of Commerce reported their office continues to get a calls from local residents concerned about the number of visitors coming to the area.

Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, “visited quite a few places at (Indian Lake last weekend) but everything looks good,” the group reported.

Campgrounds have opened for individuals that own lots/permanent camp sites. Indian Lake was very busy all around the lake, but guidance was followed in most areas.

Cranberry Resort, a restaurant located on the Indian Isles, announced Wednesday it is temporarily discontinuing to-go alcohol sales after it was reported that not every customer took its beverages off-site for consumption.

Specifically, several boats docked at the restaurant, ordered food and drink, and consumed it in their boat.

The next economic task force group meeting is 10 a.m., Monday, May 11.
