      Atlantic hurricane season begins The six-month period that starts Monday is expected to be active -- maybe even extremely active -- forecasters say. Two named storms, Arthur and Bertha, already are in the books, and NOAA's official forecast calls for six to 10 hurricanes, including three to six major ones of Category 3 or higher. Pride Month starts, adjusted for the pandemic The new month on Monday marks 51 years since the 1969 Stonewall uprising in New York City that helped spark the modern gay rights movement. Organizers reportedly are scrambling to modify what are usually huge public gatherings so they can happen more safely in the coronavirus era.

Ahmaud Arbery suspects in court Preliminary hearings are set for Thursday in the case of the Georgia man shot dead while out for a run. Travis and Gregory McMichael and William Bryan all face murder charges and are due in magistrate court. Ahmaud's family's lawyer says the case is being investigated as a federal hate crime. Universal Orlando plans to reopen The Florida theme park is set to throw open its gates Friday, with temperature checks for guests and face masks required. It's among the first such venue to resume operations in a landscape recast by Covid-19. Anniversary of 19th Amendment passage Exactly 100 years ago Thursday, Congress passed the 19th Amendment to give women the right to vote. The feat took decades to accomplish, and the measure wasn't ratified until August 1920, when Tennessee voted for it. Another grim jobs report is expected The May jobs report is set to drop Friday, and predictions are not rosy. Unemployment nationwide has risen to 14.7%, with 36.5 million Americans filing for jobless benefits since mid-March. Experts reportedly say states reopening and government loans to small businesses haven't helped much.  J.K. Rowling is back The Harry Potter author is releasing a children's fairy tale called "The Ickabog," available to read for free.
