Last Friday started as one of those perfect winter days in Tahoe. By the end, the Sierra Avalanche Center received numerous reports of avalanches.
While some slides had occurred naturally, many were triggered by backcountry skiers and snowboarders.
“I think people are looking for ways of releases and ways to escape,” said David Reichel, executive director of the Sierra Avalanche Center. “But the backcountry is a pretty unforgiving venue.”
