The No. 12 Texas Longhorns surrendered a 19-point second-half lead and fell to the No. 13 West Virginia Mountaineers by a score of 84-82 on Saturday afternoon at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin. The Longhorns had an opportunity to send the game to overtime, but there was a bit of controversy on the final play.
With the Longhorns trailing by two with less than one second remaining on the clock, Texas head coach Shaka Smart dialed up an inbounds play that resulted in a tip-in opportunity for Jericho Sims, but the game-tying attempt fell just short of the rim. However, the officiating crew appeared to miss two calls on the play.
True freshman forward Greg Brown also appeared to get held by a defender on the play as he was coming around a screen by Sims, then another defender appeared to swat Sims’ arm on the tip-in attempt.
Smart was not pleased with the no-call and let the officials hear about it after the buzzer sounded. He went on to address the apparent no-calls in the postgame press conference.
"That was a physical play before the ball came in,” Smart said. “I guess I'll leave it at that.”

The Longhorns jumped out to a 10-point lead at the halftime break and extended that lead to 19 points early in the second half, but they were outscored 41-20 by the Mountaineers over the final 18 minutes and change.
With the loss, Texas falls to 13-6 on the season and 7-5 in Big 12 Conference play, while West Virginia improves to 15-6 overall and 8-4 in league play.
The No. 12 Longhorns will look to get back on track on Tuesday when they play host to the No. 23 Kansas Jayhawks (17-7, 11-5 Big 12). The game is scheduled to tip off at 8 p.m. CT and it will be televised on ESPN.
