For those looking to burn off some extra pounds put on during the festive period, a smart T-shirt that helps monitor performance and optimise training sessions has been created by a team Warsaw scientists.
Designed with athletes in mind, the T-shirt from NutPro and the capital’s Military University of Technology measures heart and muscle activity, and analyses temperature and perspiration during exercise.
Lead scientist Mariusz Chmielewski, a strength sports instructor and passionate runner who has been testing the T-shirt on himself said: "In this T-shirt, you can not only run, but also do CrossFit training or full strength training.
“The T-shirt shows whether the exercises were carried out correctly and worked on the muscles properly.”
Adding that the T-shirt contains sensors that monitor the body’s state during physical activity in real time, he said: “Mobile biomedical measurement for an athlete are usually performed using photoplethysmography –the name of the technology used in wearable devices.
“Our T-shirt is a textronic device that integrates electronics with textiles.”
The data from the t-shirt is sent to an app, where the user can monitor the results and adjust their training to suit their needs.
The garment itself is made out of antibacterial material and the fibre contains silver ions, which limits the development of microbes.
The NutPro Sport SuperHero T-shirt is available for preorder on the company’s website.
