Kirby Smart on which Bulldogs will, won't play in Peach Bowl - 247Sports

If Georgia's players are as locked in on the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl and No. 8 Cincinnati as Kirby Smart appears to be, Bulldog fans might start 2021 off just right. Smart met with reporters via Zoom on Saturday night where he stated multiple times that he was focused on the Bearcats.

He's also focused on the players who'll be available to play in that Peach Bowl. He entertained some questions about who may or may not be available for the game but he also made it known that some have reported incorrect information in that regard.

"For the most part, yeah. I'm focused on the guys that will play," Smart said. "I don't know, apparently there's a lot of bad information out there, you in particular seem to be dead set on writing things that aren't true for whatever reason. I don't really know where some of you guys get your information but it's not always accurate.

"The biggest thing to know is that we're worried about the guys that are going to play. We're focused on the ones that are. Azeez (Ojulari) is going to play. There's a lot of misinformation out there and I don't know where you get it from, but I'm focused on the guys that are going to play. We've got a lot of them who are.

The guys that aren't, they've got a particular reason and I think I'll leave that up to those guys because some of them are injured and played throughout the year. Like I said, I'm focused on Cincinnati, Cincinnati, and COVID because those are the opponents we're dealing with right now and we're focused on the guys that are here and are going to try to play in the game. I'm excited to see a lot of those guys y'all keep listing. Mark Webb is going to play. I don't know why people keep listing his name. Richard LeCounte is trying to do everything he can to play in the game and he's been battling to come back. He's been at every practice, every rehab session. So, for whatever reason, there's a lot of bad information out there."

Keeping Ojulari and Webb in the fold could be huge for Georgia's defense. The Bulldogs have already lost outside linebacker Jermaine Johnson to transfer. He made it known earlier this week that he was on his way out and has already committed to Florida State.

If LeCounte can't play, Webb brings a needed element of experience but the Bulldogs are already losing more than that in the secondary. Dawgs247 has confirmed multiple times over that DJ Daniel won't be participating in the bowl game and Smart confirmed on Saturday that another UGA defensive back, Eric Stokes, will be out along with a few other players -- inside linebacker Monty Rice, offensive lineman Ben Cleveland, and tight end Tre' McKitty.

"Those would be the four that, right now, I don't think are going to play," Smart said. "Tre' obviously has the senior bowl and Tre' was also dealing with a knee all year. He had a knee injury right before the season that slowed him down and Ben has been dealing with a shoulder. Ben has planed a lot of football with us. Monty has had a foot injury that he has pushed through ever since Alabama and he's been trying to prepare to get ready for the senior bowl. He's got a bright future ahead of him but he hasn't been able to practice."

So it's kind of unfair for Monty because he literally can't practice and he goes out and tries to play in games, which is tough on him. So he's trying to get well and recover. Then Stokes has chosen to declare for the NFL. With Stokes' situation, those four guys probably won't be able to play. But like I've said, I'm super proud of the guys that are and that want to finish it off and are committed to Georgia and want to finish it off the right way. Hey, look, at the end of the day, I'm worried about the ones who are here. I think it says a tremendous amount about the guys that are. I'm not focused on the guys that aren't because that's an individual decision for each one."
